Lucknow: A woman died under mysterious circumstances at a private hospital in the Madiyaon area of Lucknow shortly after allegedly being administered an injection by a doctor. The incident triggered tension at the hospital, with the woman’s family members accusing the staff of negligence.
According to the family, the woman was admitted to Highway Hospital on October 26 for treatment of a leg injury. She underwent surgery on October 28 and had been hospitalised for five days. She was expected to be discharged on November 1.
Her son, a resident of Munshiganj in Sitapur district, claimed that her condition was normal until Sunday morning. He said she was laughing and talking with family members before complaining to the doctor about mild pain in her operated leg.
The family alleged that the doctor administered an injection following her complaint. However, shortly afterwards, her condition suddenly deteriorated, and she died. The family said they had been expecting her discharge but instead received a phone call from the hospital informing them of her death.
The woman’s son also alleged that hospital authorities kept the body for nearly two hours before handing it over to the family.
Following the woman’s death, chaos broke out at the hospital. On receiving the information, Madiyaon police station in-charge Alok Rao reached the scene with a police team and calmed the family members. Police said the exact cause of death would be established only after the post-mortem report and investigation, reports Bhaskar English.
No definitive conclusion regarding medical negligence or the cause of death has been established so far.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that the Kerala High Court has ordered a fresh investigation into an alleged medical negligence case involving a 31-year-old woman who suffered life-threatening complications following cosmetic surgery at a private day-care centre in Thiruvananthapuram, resulting in the amputation of four fingers and five toes.
