21yo woman dies during childbirth; family alleges medical negligence

Haridwar: A 21-year-old woman died during childbirth at the PPP-mode Women’s Hospital in Haridwar late Monday night, while her newborn survived. Her family alleged medical negligence, claiming she was referred to AIIMS Rishikesh despite the hospital having an ICU and without confirming bed availability.

Following Renu Das’s death, her relatives and local residents staged a protest outside the hospital, demanding action. The hospital management said she was in critical condition and died while being referred to AIIMS.

Renu was first admitted on Aug 29 for a caesarean delivery and discharged the next day. Her family alleged she was discharged despite her deteriorating condition. She was admitted again on Monday and taken to the operation theatre.
