IML organizes the 'National Convention on Medicine & Law' every year, a platform to identify the legal issues relating to medicine, discuss them threadbare, and suggest remedial measures. Doctors, medical associations, hospitals, lawyers, judges, academicians, regulators, and policy makers are part of this initiative.
The Convention comprises of a full day event in Mumbai divided into multiple sessions. Apart from the main event, it also includes break-away sessions for high-risk specialties and hospitals focusing on specific issues pertaining to them. A follow-up event in Delhi with key government bodies and dignitaries ensures that the suggestions and actions recommended by the Convention are conveyed to the policy makers. The presence of national media helps in disseminating the requisite information to all concerned effectively.
The important luminaries who have contributed and participated in this initiative include Justice Dr. Balbir Singh Chauhan, Chairman - Law Commission of India, Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss, former Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, and Dr. Jagdish Prasad (Director General of Health Services), amongst many others.
